This week I'll be talking about one of those guys.. Cyril Huze.

It is a true pleasure and honor to share a little something about our Forum Queen aka forum Moderator the amazing Belinda! Some one with courage, strength and a wacky sense of humor makes her a perfect fit at WMMotorcyclist.
Belinda is one who knows inner strength beyond what words can express. Until February of 2009 she was a well-known resident of Kinglake, Australia, which was a town, devastated by the tragic Australian Wildfires. Her town suffered catastrophic losses, including 178 people many of which were her friends. I don’t believe there are any words that could possibly express the terror and fear of going thru that experience and the tragic loss of so many.
What I can say is Belinda’s positive way of being was a shining light in a cloud of darkness and her efforts of assisting others were simply amazing. She now lives in Toolangi, Australia, which is just over 1 hour drive north of Melbourne. Snuggled in the mountains and fantastic for dirt bike and road bike riding. She rides a Harley 883 with all the trimmings and is also fan of dirty bike riding.
Belinda mentions, “My dirt bike I ride for extreme frustration release. Tearing up the dirt, pushing myself to the limit is a great energy release and of course fun. My Harley I ride for enjoyment, fun, pleasure, relaxation and stress relief. I let the wind blow away any worries! Surrounded by angels, Belinda’s is truly an asset to womenmotorcyclist.com and someone I am so grateful to have as a sister. Lisa M. Legohn is a woman of vision, strength and valor; but yet…a very humble person. Miss Legohn has been a pioneer in promoting the image of welding by encouraging women to enter the field of welding. In September of 1990 she was appointed Associate Professor of Welding Technology at Los Angeles Trade Technical College, female enrollment in the welding program was 2% since Lisa’s tenure it’s been as high as 12%. Her promotion of women into the welding programs and careers is evident by the 2006 and 2008 Work Force Development Awards she received from the Los Angeles Community College District. Lisa is the 1980 Vocational Olympics Gold Medalist for Combination Welding, holder of nine Guinness World Records 2003-2005, have appeared on Discovery Channel’s Monster Garage and “BIG” programs as welder extraordinaire. If you’ve ever seen the three episodes of Monster Garage or thirteen episodes of “BIG” it was not apparent that she was in pain or undergoing any type of medical treatment. She did it all with a SMILE. In promoting the image of welding, she and five of her students, two females and three males were featured in the episode of “BIG” where they made the largest Bar-B-Q Grill in the World.
She is mentioned in books such as: Marquis Who’s Who Who’s Who in America 2008, Marquis Who’s Who Who’s Who of American Women Twenty-Sixth Edition 2007-2008, The Mind At Work, Monster Garage How to Customize Damn Near Anything, Monster Garage In Side Monster Garage, Monster Garage Monster Nation, …this is only a peek into the activities that demonstrate exemplary dedication to the promotion of the image of welding. What makes this leader so special…Lisa was undergoing chemotherapy when she was contacted to tape the Monster Garage programs, at the same time she was an Associate Professor of Welding Technology at Los Angeles Trade Technical College, teaching combination welding to males and females alike. When approached to tape other episodes of Monster Garage she recommended three of her female students. Lisa did not step down because of Cancer; but…to give upcoming female welders a chance to promote the image of welding. There is much more to be told as I did not mention all the books she is listed in or all the awards and honors she has received in the promotion of the image of welding. Lisa M. Legohn is a reflection of the true meaning of “The Image of Welding”.
Weak Economy Cited, Biker Charity Event Will Return As Economy ImprovesGlendale, Ca -- Love Ride 26, slated for October 25, 2009, has been canceled. The announcement was made by Love Ride founder Oliver Shokouh, who cited the weak economy as the reason for the event’s cancellation.
In place of the usual event, Glendale Harley, Home of the Love Ride, is sponsoring an autograph session with Peter Fonda and free movie screening, commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Fonda’s starring role in “Easy Rider.” The event will take place at the dealership (3717 San Fernando Rd. in Glendale) Friday, October 23rd from 4-10pm. Glendale Harley will also be selling Love Ride memorabilia (Love Rides 1-26) on Saturday, October 24th from 9am-4pm and Sunday, October 25th from 6am-2pm.
The hope is to recoup some of the costs already incurred this year by the Love Ride Foundation. The dealership will also have representatives on hand to answer any questions. “This was a gut wrenching decision for me,” says Shokouh, who founded the Love Ride in 1984 and within a few years built it into the world’s largest one-day motorcycle charity event. “I want to make clear that this has absolutely nothing to do with the Love Ride staff, volunteers or organizers. Everyone has worked hard for the past 25 years. Our problem boils down to one thing, the economy.
The bottom line is that the Love Ride is a victim of the recession. We did a very careful analysis over the last several months, and realized that ticket sales weren’t enough to offset costs. Simply put, there would be no money left to help the kids, the sole reason for the Love Ride.” The Love Ride started back in 1984 as an event to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. As the Love Ride grew, the destination changed from Calamigos Ranch to Lake Castaic and then to the Fairplex. The list of beneficiaries also grew, from MDA to over one dozen children’s charities, including Autism Speaks.
Last year’s Silver Anniversary Love Ride 25 drew thousands of bikers for the fund-raising motorcycle ride that featured an afternoon concert headlined by ZZ Top and the Foo Fighters. “Things were on track for continued growth, then the economy collapsed,” adds Shokouh. Circumstances turned against us. 2009 is simply not a good year for a charity event.”Shokouh was optimistic that the Love Ride would return, if not next year, then in 2011. “Times are tough, we’re lovin’ but not ridin’, at least not this year”, says Shokouh, who started his Glendale Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealership in 1976. “After 25 years of expansion, it may be time to return to our roots with a smaller, more intimate event. But we will be back.”
